Join us in honoring the memory of our beloved Albertine "Tina" Barclay. We are abundantly grateful for the immense love, care, wisdom and generosity that she has extended upon us and countless others. As we grieve and mourn our physical loss, we find comfort in knowing that her spirit will remain in us forever.
On September 12, 2023, Tina transitioned from this life after a sudden yet valiant battle with pancreatic cancer. Affectionately known as ‘Cousin Tina,’ 'Sis Tina,' ‘Tina B,’ ‘Mommy,’ and ‘Gham’ by those who loved and adored her, she exuded the epitome of warmth and grace. Those who knew her, often recognized her for positive contributions to her community in the U.S. and beloved homeland of Liberia, West Africa.
If you ever had the pleasure to meet Tina, you were guaranteed to have a friend for life as she often gave the shirt off her back to those in need. With her infectious laugh and cheerful smile, her personal life motto to friends, loved ones and even complete strangers was always, “Stay sweet and spread it the world over.”
So, it’s no surprise that she left this earth on the 12th day of September which happens to be annually observed as National Day of Encouragement, a day dedicated to uplifting and encouraging people around the world to make a positive impact in each other’s lives.
In lieu of flowers, our goal is to raise funds in honor of Tina’s legacy of kindness and a life well served. Your donations will be redistributed in the form of art, dance, music, creative writing, and theater scholarships for first and second-generation youth of African descent. More details will follow as we explore partnering with local communities, establishing a non-profit foundation or identifying other means of supporting a sustainable and impactful fund.
