Natalie's obituary

Dr. Natalie C. Hilliker passed away on February 21, 2015 in Boston, Massachusetts at the age of 37. After graduating from Northwestern University with a Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry in 1999, Natalie went on to pursue a lifelong career in education. Starting out as a high school teacher, she quickly realized her passion for teaching and went on to pursue her Ph.D. at UC Berkeley. After obtaining her PhD, she sought out various adjunct professor positions at local colleges, and eventually fell in love with the campus and interpersonal environment of Pierce College.

An educator until the very end, Natalie was sure to leave a lifetime's worth of knowledge in the form of many free-form lectures and conversations with anyone who had the time. Natalie thrived on the discussion of ideas both as an individual and as a professional, enthralled with her chosen career path of being a professor. Known affectionately by many of her students as "Dr. Nat", she spent much of her time dedicated to the teaching of chemical sciences and the assistance of others who were looking to broaden their knowledge. She influenced the lives of so many and was loved and adored by countless students who reached out to her over the years, long after they'd graduated and left the program.

Alongside being an adjunct professor of chemistry at Pierce, Natalie was also on the board for multiple charities, including the Scicore Research Institute and the Royal Society of Chemistry. Please consider a donation to the Royal Society of Chemistry, an organization she cared so much for that aims to help underprivileged youth achieve academic success within the field of chemistry. She dedicated her life to the community surrounding Pierce College, educating and inspiring countless students to pursue their dreams. Many have cited her as their inspiration for pursuing a career in education or education-adjacent careers.

Natalie's life tragically ended short on February 21 after a chance encounter with one of the cattle during a visit to the Pierce College farm with one of her children. She is survived by her loving sons, James and Nathan, and husband, Tom. She is predeceased by James, Nathan, and Tom. Services will be held at 10:00 AM on March 1st at the Angelus Rosedale Cemetary.
