Martin's obituary
Martin L. Schulte:
Martin Louis Schulte (“Marty”), Age 65, of Perham, MN died on March 10, 2022 at the Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, ND.
Marty was born in Minneapolis, MN on October 14, 1956, to Theresa and Charles Schulte. He was a graduate of Jefferson High School and the Alexandria Technical and Community College where he was trained as a Machinist. He worked for many years with his father in their business, Spruce Hill Machine, a machine shop that specialized in custom and small run machine parts.
Marty always followed his own path. An avid biker, his interest in motorcycles led him to California where he worked in a custom motorcycle shop. After a brief time he returned to Minnesota, and developed a business manufacturing high quality, custom Harley motorcycle parts and leather saddlebags. The items he produced remain in great demand among custom enthusiasts.
A talented musician, inventor, and entrepreneur, Marty merged his custom metalworking talents with his consuming interest in guitars and musical instruments. He is the founder and creative artist of Spruce Hill Guitars in Perham, MN. This business was founded on Marty’s distinctively designed aluminum guitars, many sold through Fender Guitars. Each guitar is an art piece, renowned for their high quality, unique sound and colorful, complex bodies. His guitars are valued by many professional musicians including Tito Jackson, Travis Tritt, and Leon Hendrix. Marty’s artistry, love of life, and unwavering commitment to following his dreams exemplify a life well lived.
Marty is survived by his devoted partner of many years, Patricia Shaffer and his siblings Kathy Pexsa (Bert Pexsa); Carol Schulte; Marvin Schulte (Mary van Muelken); Barbara Kampff (Roger Kamppf); and Robert Schulte. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Theresa Schulte.
Interment was at St. Mary's Cemetery and Mausoleum, Alexandria, MN on March 23, 2022. A memorial and celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Funeral Arrangements were made by Anderson Funeral Home of Alexandria.
