Jeremy Dean Blomstedt passed away peacefully at home in Lincoln, Nebraska on August 5, 2020 after a months long battle with cancer. Jeremy married Amy (Powell), the love of his life, on October 10, 2010 and they made a life together in McCook and Lincoln since.
Jeremy, ever the creative talent, shared his gifts as an actor and filmmaker as well as his joyful spirit with all of his family and friends. He worked most recently at the University of Nebraska - Lincoln in the Johnny Carson School of Theater of School and Film until his cancer rendered him unable to work. Previously, Jeremy worked as an assistant editor/journalist at the McCook Daily Gazette. Jeremy loved theater, film making, and bringing joy to others in his numerous stage performances. Jeremy’s sharp wit, intellect, and sense of humor were a part of his earliest days as he entertained friends and family as a child and impressed with his amazing gift for reading even as a toddler.
Jeremy was born in McCook, Nebraska on August 29, 1974 to parents Dennis and Frances Blomstedt of Palisade, NE. Jeremy is the 3rd of 9 siblings (Melissa Palmer with husband, Dwayne of North Platte, NE; Matthew Blomstedt with wife, Angela, of Central City, NE; John Blomstedt with wife, Laura, of Plattsmouth; Vincent Blomstedt with wife, Morgan, of Cook; Peter Blomstedt of Palisade, NE; Stephen Blomstedt with wife, Sandrine, of New York, NY; Timothy Blomstedt with wife, Hannah of Norfolk, NE; and JoanAnn Blomstedt of Lincoln, NE.)
Preceding Jeremy in death have been his mother Frances of Palisade and his grandparents, John and Ida Bones of McCook; Andrew and Helen Blomstedt of Palisade.
Jeremy is survived by his wife Amy and her parents, John and Betty Powell of Sevierville, TN; Amy’s sister, Melissa Powell of Durham, NC; his father, Dennis; and his adoring siblings, nieces and nephews. (Melissa Palmer’s children: Jeffrey Heskett, Cassandra and Phil Schlagel, Nicholas Heskett, Elizabeth Heskett, and Shemar Palmer; Matt’s children: Emily, Megan, Katelynn, Claire and Erik Blomstedt; Vincent’s children: Catherine, Abigail, Edith, and Vincent Blomstedt; Stephen’s daughter: Lesley Blomstedt; and Tim’s son: Carl Blomstedt -Ages ranging from 6 years old to 28 years old).
A visitation and rosary (limited to invited family and friends) will be held on August 28th in Palisade at the Holy Family Catholic Church, where Jeremy and Amy were married.
A memorial Mass will be held in McCook, Nebraska on August 29, 2020 at Saint Patrick's Catholic Church, where Jeremy was baptized. Given possible concerns about coronavirus transmission, services may be limited in attendance based on any necessary restrictions by local health officials or church requirements.
It is anticipated that other remembrances may take place among friends and family as possible. Those who knew Jeremy will remember the joy he brought on Earth and be comforted that he is entertaining the ages. As he insisted on being inscribed on his 6th birthday cake, “Thanks to all who made this day possible!”
